Current Research

My research interests focus on lung disease and are rooted in my clinical practice as a diagnostic cardiothoracic pathologist. I have had a long interest in lung injury and remodelling and have well established collaborative links with Professor Sarah Howie in Pathology and the Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic, led by Dr Nik Hirani. More recently I have also been involved on research on molecular aspects of lung cancer, particularly in relation to biomarker expression and the use of modern imaging studies to evaluate vascular cardiac valve disease. I have a major interest in projects evaluating and refining the use of specimens submitted for pathological evaluation to optimise the information that can made available for patient care.

I have also worked closely for a number of years with veterinary colleagues looking at pathological aspects of disease in both animal models and in routine practice.
