Edinburgh Pathology has broad research interests in gynaecological pathology. Image PIs in Edinburgh Pathology lead research in lower genital tract neoplasia, including the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, endometrial carcinogenesis and ovarian cancer. All of these areas involve collaborations with colleagues in other disciplines, including the Scottish HPV reference centre, the Scottish HPV Archive, the MRC Centre for Reproductive Health and the Nicola Murray Ovarian Cancer Research Centre. There is active interest in the development of novel methods for imaging gynaecological cancers. Members also provide pathology expertise to clinical trials in gynaecological cancer and are recognised internationally through, for example, the International Society of Gynaecological Pathologists and involvement in the WHO Classification of Tumours of Female Reproductive Organs. Members take part in collaborative research in benign endometrial disease, with particular focus in steroid receptor function and the effects of steroid receptor ligands on the endometrium. Pathology expertise is provided in clinical trials of new selective progesterone receptor modulators."
